Stop the non-sense: Give Aaron Donald a long-term deal

Aaron Donald is one of the best players in the NFL today. He burst into the league in 2014 and showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. He makes offensive linemen look silly, and shows that explosiveness that most people have never really seen from an NFL defensive tackle before.

Yet, the Rams have not given him a long-term deal. And that is a problem.

It is most likely that Donald will be holding out during mini-camp because he has not been given that new contract, which is understandable. The Rams are now being coached by an offensive-minded guy, so defense has taken a back seat this offseason, hence Trumaine Johnson just getting the franchise tag.

However, here’s a tip to new coach Sean McVay, when you have a top ten player in the NFL, you usually tend to want to keep him on your team.

The Rams defense has been the strong suit of the team, and Donald has been the reason for it. Granted, last season was abysmal for the Rams and the defense was bad as well, but you cannot punish your best players that much for it. The team was poorly run, poorly coached, and not disciplined.

Donald’s stats dipped a bit last season, and that is probably because of the undisciplined attitude of the Rams. The Rams were the third most penalized team in the NFL, and Donald was fairly reckless in his play. However, …
